​The University of Jordan (UJ) has announced the formation of a new research group dedicated to advancing stem cell science and therapies. Named "Mesenchymal Stromal Cells and Advanced Therapies," the initiative will operate within the university's Cell Therapy Center, bringing together a team of renowned local and international experts.

The group's primary goal is to conduct both fundamental and applied research on stem cells and their derivatives, with a particular emphasis on developing these into medical products that meet stringent global manufacturing standards (Good Manufacturing Practices - GMP). This initiative aims to unlock the therapeutic potential of stem cells for a wide range of diseases, potentially revolutionizing treatment options.

The research group comprises a diverse team of specialists, including Dr. Hanan Jafar, Prof. Abdulla Awidi, Prof. Osama Samara, Diana Shahin, and Reem Rahmeh from the University of Jordan; Dr. Dana Alhattab from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology; Dr. Fatima Jamali, founder of Cell Lab in Dubai; Professor Dr. Hiba Badreldin, Director of the Stem Cell Center at the University of Khartoum and a researcher at Abu Dhabi Stem Cell Center; as well as Dr. Mari Vastra and Dr. Ivari Saar from Cellin Technologies in Estonia, and Farah Al-Hallaq, a postgraduate student.

The group will focus on studying stem cells and their derivatives, exploring their research and clinical potential for treating various diseases, and registering these derivatives as therapeutic products with relevant regulatory authorities. Moreover, it aims to support researchers and students by providing research and training opportunities on the latest global technologies, thereby enhancing their skills and contributions in this vital field.
