UJ Marks King’s 63rd Birthday with Grand Ceremony

The University of Jordan (UJ) organized today, Thursday, January 30, a grand ceremony to celebrate the 63rd birthday of His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein.

In honor of this special occasion, UJ launched a song titled "A King and a University", produced, coordinated, and executed by the Media and Public Relations Unit in collaboration with the Jordan Radio and Television Corporation, with music composed by Dr. Sobhi El-Sharqawi and lyrics written by Dr. Maha Al-Atoum.

The musical featured an dialogue between students, represented by the university chorale, and the university itself, voiced by the Jordanian singer Nedaa Sharara. In the song, students express their deep appreciation for the university as a significant Hashemite achievement, fostering knowledge and progress in the society.

Through Sharara’s voice, the university reflects on its unique bond with His Majesty King Abdullah II, as both were born in the same year. The anthem highlights the King's pivotal role in advancing education and paving the way for knowledge, overcoming obstacles to foster a flourishing society.

The students also sang admirations of the university, adoring its iconic cypress trees and domes, which symbolize education in the Arab world and beyond:

The song concluded with an amazing musical segment, where both the university and students unite in expressing their love for King Abdullah II and pride in their university, acknowledging how the university, under the King’s visionary leadership, has climbed the ranks of global institutions, producing graduates who excel in knowledge and culture.

UJ President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, said: "Today, we remember the profound moments that shaped our hearts and souls. The father of the honored King was the most beloved of men—Hussein, who cherished his people, and in return, they loved him dearly. His grandfather was the visionary founder of this great nation."

Obeidat emphasized that the university celebrates alongside all Jordanians in marking the birthday of a King who has devoted himself to his people, upheld their rights, and stood as a supporter of Palestine, offering incomparable assistance to the Palestinian people.

For the first time, Obeidat revealed that UJ has received the largest technological project grant in its history—$11 million from South Korea—to support technical training and renewable energy initiatives.

Additionally, the university will soon begin constructing a state-of-the-art Learning and Assessment Center, funded by a generous $5 million donation from a distinguished Jordanian figure.

Obeidat concluded that we honor this occasion by realizing His Majesty’s vision for a distinguished Jordanian society through generations equipped with knowledge, innovation, and a commitment to modernization.

He also commended the song "A King and a University" as a masterpiece that embodies the university's legacy, thanking all the talented contributors, Jordan television, and the media institutions that continue to support the university.

The event, organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs, featured several activities, including an art exhibition showcasing paintings that reflect love for Jordan, a handmade artifacts exhibition, and performances of traditional and patriotic musical pieces under the supervision of the School of Arts and Design.
