The University of Jordan (UJ) has announced the launch of a new dedicated research group titled "Social Problems and Interventions," under the supervision of Professor Rula AlSawalqa from the Department of Sociology at the School of Arts.
This group aims to investigate social problems and interventions span various critical issues affecting individuals and communities, such as the consequences of emotional labor, juvenile delinquency, violence against women, burnout, bullying, and suicide. These topics intersect with various aspects of societal well-being and individual mental health. Social problems are complex, often influenced by structural, cultural, and individual factors.
Research in this area aims to understand the root causes and consequences, explore which approaches are most effective in alleviating social problems, foster positive social change, improve outcomes for marginalized populations, and identify potential interventions to address these issues.
The group includes a distinguished team of local and international researchers, including Professor Denis Venter from the Africa Institute in Pretoria, Associate Dr. Maissa Alrawashdeh from the University of Jordan, Dr. Ann Alnajdawi from the University of Jordan, Dr. Younas Khan from Kohat University of Science and Technology in Pakistan, Dr. Mohammad Al Rufou from the National Aid Fund in Jordan, researcher Yara Abdul Rahman Sa'deh from the Innovation for Inclusion (Includovate) Institution, and Omayya Taysir Alwan, a graduate student at the University of Jordan.
The group seeks to strengthen academic collaboration locally and internationally by building a knowledge-sharing network that includes experts and researchers from various academic institutions. It also opens opportunities for interested individuals to actively participate in its scientific activities.
