The University of Jordan (UJ) on Saturday concluded the graduation ceremonies for the 59th class, Silver Jubilee Cohort, of approximately 9,814 graduates.
According to the Admissions and Registration Unit, total number of graduates this year is 9,814, with 7,368 having completed their bachelor's degrees and 2,446 having completed their postgraduate studies. Females made up two-thirds of the graduates at both the bachelor's and postgraduate levels.
In his address, UJ President Prof. Nathir Obeidat stated that the name of the University of Jordan has now become synonymous with excellence and devotion, with its professors being a hallmark of distinction and its graduates being recognized for their achievements.
Obeidat went on to say, "You are now waiting to receive your certificates. Do not worry, you will receive them, and days, months, and years will pass. Some of you will find the way easy, some will carve the way with their own hands, and some may take a tough alternative path, and that's okay. We do not know who among you will reach first, but you will all reach, and the most important question remains: Who among you will make history?"
He added, "Know that you have difficult exams and practical tests ahead, which will be tougher than your university exams. The upcoming tests will be nonstop, and you will see their results immediately, everywhere."
Obeidat highlighted the university's recent global achievements, dedicating these successes to the students. He stated, "Today, the University of Jordan gifts you its distinction, which you and your professors have embodied, along with the largest update to its academic plans and teaching halls."
He urged the students to always be strong for the sake of the nation, to create the future, make a mark, write history, and be advocates of creativity and innovation. He called on the graduates to teach others about the University of Jordan, a place that has produced generations of distinguished individuals, and to remember the number 368.
Obeidat also called on the graduates and attendees to remember "that they live in some joy, while some of our family and brothers in Palestine cannot find a sip of water, a piece of bread, or an hour of safety, as homes are demolished over their heads." He urged them to keep in mind the image of a father carrying his deceased daughter, believing she is still alive, and another carrying his wounded father, hoping a doctor could revive him.
He saluted the resilience of children, women, and the elderly in Palestine and stood in respect for the heroes of the Jordanian Armed Forces who provide aid and protection.
Vice President for Administrative Affairs and Chairman of the Graduation Committee, Prof. Ziad Hawamdeh, remarked, "Today is not just a celebration of academic success, but a testament to the strength, will, and determination shown in your academic journey. You are our distinguished graduates who will contribute to a bright and renewed future."
Hawamdeh emphasized that education is more than certificates; it is intellect, spirit, and character. He encouraged the graduates to continue dreaming and not let anything hinder their path.
Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Safwan Al-Shiyab, expressed pride and joy in seeing the graduates as the hope for tomorrow, marking the beginning of a new chapter filled with aspirations and dreams. He acknowledged the pain experienced by those in Gaza and Palestine, however affirmed that the graduates carry hope for a brighter future.
At the closing ceremony, 102 students were honored for their academic excellence and outstanding achievements.
