Winners of 2023 Hamdi Mango Awards for Scientific Excellence Announced

​The University of Jordan (UJ) announced on Thursday, the winners of the 2023 Hamdi Mango Center Awards for Scientific Excellence.

Dr. Walhan Alshaer, from the Cell Therapy Center at UJ, won the Ali Mango Award for Distinguished Researcher in the fields of Medicine and Nursing, while Dr. Laith Al-Eitan from the Faculty of Science and Arts at the Jordan University of Science and Technology, won the Award in the field of Science and Agriculture.

Dr. Yasmin Murad from the School of Engineering at the University, won the Samia Mango Award for Distinguished Researcher in the field of Basic Sciences and Engineering, and Dr. Heba Youssef Abdel Nabi, who holds a PhD in Computer Science from Princess Sumaya University for Technology, won the Postgraduate Alumni's Award in Scientific and Health Specializations.

The Hamdi Mango Center for Scientific Research aims to be a distinguished research center for addressing sustainable development issues locally and globally under the umbrella of the University of Jordan, by providing a suitable research environment and support. This encourages researchers at UJ to conduct applied scientific research in various fields of science, as well as promoting and developing scientific research in the Kingdom.

The Ali Mango Award for Distinguished Researcher in Jordan is awarded annually by the center, in recognition of outstanding researchers working within the Kingdom and encouraging them to enrich academic knowledge.

Vice President for Global Rankings and International Accreditation, Prof. Faleh Al-Suwair, noted that the 2024 edition of the award will be dedicated to the fields of engineering and information technology and the fields of dentistry, pharmacy, and rehabilitation sciences.

He added that the Samia Mango Award for Distinguished Researcher in Jordan was established in appreciation by the center and the Mango family for distinguished female researchers in Jordan.  It is awarded annually to female researchers in scientific, engineering, medical, and health specializations. The 2023 edition was awarded to researchers in scientific and engineering specializations, while the 2024 edition will be dedicated to medical and health specializations.

A total of 53 candidates from public and private Jordanian universities applied for the award. The distribution was as follows: 15 candidates in the fields of science and agriculture, 17 candidates in the fields of medicine and nursing, 12 candidates for the Postgraduate Studies Alumni Award, and nine female researchers competed for the Samia Mango Award for Distinguished Researcher in scientific and engineering specializations.
