The University of Jordan (UJ), through its Deanship of Scientific Research, organized a training session on the responsible use of artificial intelligence tools and open data, underscoring the university’s commitment to preparing its academic community for emerging digital trends. The session was delivered by Dr. Tahani Al-Khatib from the King Abdullah II School of Information Technology (KASIT) and brought together nearly 120 faculty members and researchers.

Al-Khatib outlined the evolution of artificial intelligence from early rule-based systems to today’s rapidly advancing generative models, explaining how large language models operate and clarifying the differences between generative, predictive, classification, and conversational systems. She also introduced platforms such as Julius, Hugging Face, and Kaggle, which are now widely used in research.

The session highlighted UJ’s newly issued guidelines for responsible AI use in teaching, research, and administrative work, noting their role in protecting privacy, ensuring academic integrity, and maintaining the centrality of human creativity in scientific inquiry.

The event concluded with an open discussion on the future of higher education in the age of artificial intelligence, the ethics of open data, and the responsibility of universities to guide a balanced and informed approach to technological change.
