UJ Hosts Minister of Government Communication in Seminar on Media’s Role Amidst Challenges

​Jordan’s Minister of Government Communication, Dr. Mohammad Al-Momani, highlighted the nation’s exceptional resilience in overcoming regional challenges, attributing it to the leadership's wisdom, effective decision-making, and the professionalism of its institutions in crisis management and border security. He also emphasized the role of an informed public, shaped by Jordan’s openness to media and education, as a cornerstone of this resilience.

Al-Momani made these remarks during a seminar at the School of Foreign Languages titled "The Role of Media Amidst Surrounding Challenges and the Importance of Highlighting His Majesty King Abdullah II's International Efforts." The event explored the media's role in tackling global and local challenges and emphasized the need to promote King's leadership on international issues.

The event, held under the patronage of UJ President Prof. Nathir Obeidat and attended by Vice President for Humanities Schools Prof. Nahed Amiesh, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages Prof. Marwan Jarrah, and Dean of the School of Arts Prof. Mohammad Qudah, highlighted the Jordanian media's ability to set a balance between instant news reporting, clarifying facts, and establishing credibility, raising awareness among Jordanians of the risks facing the country and the region while countering any campaigns targeting Jordan.

Al-Momani highlighted the credibility and professionalism of Jordan's official and non-official media institutions, noting their success in presenting facts neutrally and effectively, supported by a legal framework that balances freedoms with necessary regulations. The Minister urged students to seek accurate information from credible sources and combat rumors. He emphasized the importance of mastering a language other than Arabic to understand global narratives and communicate Jordan's stance to the world effectively.

In his remarks, Dr. Marwan Al-Jarrah, Dean of the School highlighted the integral connection between media’s role in addressing regional challenges and the Hashemite leadership’s dedication to the Palestinian cause. He emphasized Jordan’s historical commitment to advocating for Palestinian rights on regional and international platforms, reflecting its religious, national, and historical duties. Al-Jarrah also reaffirmed His Majesty King Abdullah II’s unwavering dedication to the Hashemite Custodianship of Jerusalem’s holy sites, noting that Jordanian media aligns with this vision in defending the Palestinian cause and combating misinformation.

During the seminar, Vice Dean for Quality, Accreditation, and International Rankings Dr. Abedelrahman Altakhaineh, introduced Al-Momani, highlighting his role in promoting Jordan’s sovereign positions and His Majesty King Abdullah II’s relentless efforts to ensure security and peace in the Middle East and globally.

The seminar concluded with an extensive discussion, where Al-Momani addressed questions from faculty members, administrative staff, and students on the role of media in truthfully conveying information and the professionalism of Jordan’s civil institutions. UJ Prof. Nathir Obeidat noted in his remarks that while education in Jordan faces challenges, there is significant potential for improvement, reflecting the country’s resilience and prospects for growth.
