UJ Remembers His Majesty Late King Hussein Bin Talal on His 89th Birth Anniversary

​The University of Jordan (UJ) community honors today, November 14, the 89th anniversary of the late King Hussein bin Talal’s birth, May God rest his soul. King Hussein is celebrated as the architect of modern Jordan, having laid strong and solid foundations that established the Kingdom as a model of achievement and development.

University faculty and students reflect on the late king's legacy, who led Jordan for forty-seven years alongside his people, building the modern Jordan, elevating its status, and serving the causes of the Arab and Islamic worlds with clear vision, wisdom, and a devotion shared by the Jordanian people. This unity and loyalty elevated Jordan’s reputation and respect on regional and international levels, creating a sense of pride and hope as King Abdullah II continues the journey of growth and development in all fields, following the path of his Hashemite lineage.

Reflecting on the late king's development legacy, university members proudly remember September 2, 1962, when King Hussein announced the establishment of this major educational institution, envisioning it as a significant engine for a promising future for Jordan filled with achievement, prosperity, and human development.

In appreciation of the late king's monumental act of founding the university, the University’s Board of Trustees granted His Majesty an honorary doctorate at the university's inaugural ceremony, thus bestowing a degree issued by the university.

The university takes pride in sharing the passage of years with His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, who, alongside the university, was blessed by the late King Hussein to serve the Jordanian people, as declared in the iconic speech at the university’s inauguration. Since that day, the university has deepened its roots, extending its branches across Jordan's institutions, providing qualified alumni to the Arab world.

King Hussein’s legacy highlights his commitment towards education, with expanding compulsory education and spreading schools across the Kingdom’s cities, villages, deserts, and countryside during his reign, resulted in Jordan leading the Arab world in literacy rates and in combating illiteracy efforts.

King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein has furthered the development journey, laying the foundations of a new era in the 21st century aimed at the nation’s progress with knowledge as its core and a commitment to the prosperity of all citizens.

Since ascending the throne, His Majesty King Abdullah II has led with wisdom, insight, and a broad vision, handling the regional and international challenges of recent years, leading Jordan to earn a worldwide admiration and respect for its dedication to achievement and ensuring a dignified life for its people.

At the University, as we remember the birth of the late King Hussein, we pray to God Almighty to grant him eternal mercy and forgiveness. We remain loyal to the homeland, dedicated to the pride and honor of Jordan, drawing strength and steadfast from our wise Hashemite leadership to keep Jordan proud, resilient, secure and stable.
