The University of Jordan (UJ), through its School of Sharia, participated in the 11th Scientific Conference on Sustainable Development, organized by the Faculty of Shari’a and Islamic Studies at Yarmouk University in cooperation with the Jordan Scholars Association, under the theme “Sustainable Development in Islamic Studies: Dimensions, Objectives, and Applications.”
The participation reflects UJ’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its academic and research presence both nationally and regionally, and to highlighting the essential role of Islamic studies in promoting sustainable development through a maqāṣid-based approach rooted in Qur’anic values, justice, and reform.
Dean of the School of Sharia, Prof. Abdul Rahman Ibrahim Zaid Alkilani, chaired one of the conference’s scientific sessions, which featured papers exploring the relationship between Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah (objectives of Islamic law) and sustainable development. During the session, Alkilani emphasized the importance of employing Islamic scholarship in formulating just development policies that preserve resources, uphold human dignity, and ensure balanced progress.
The participants highlighted the importance of fostering partnerships between Sharia schools and national and international institutions working on sustainable development, to ensure tangible social impact guided by the higher objectives of Islamic law.
