The School of Pharmacy at the University of Jordan (UJ) hosted a distinguished group of honorary professors during a two-day academic and professional visit that featured a rich program of scientific engagement and interactive learning activities.
The visit commenced with a welcoming address delivered by the Dean of the School, Prof. Rula Darwish, who emphasised the importance of such academic collaborations in enriching students’ learning experiences and fostering research excellence.
As part of the visit, the honorary professors participated in evaluating sixth-year students during the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) and contributed to assessing student presentations within professional simulation sessions. In addition, the Career Readiness Program was presented, an initiative designed to equip students with the skills and competencies necessary for successful integration into the labour market.
The visit also featured a series of scientific lectures delivered by the honorary professors, focusing on key themes in research methodology and academic writing. Among the highlighted sessions were:
“Conducting a Systematic Review in Medical Research” by Dr. Sabiha Ishaq
“Funding Opportunities for Graduate Students” by Professor Thaqif El Khassawna
“Core Elements of Strong Research Proposals” by Dr. Jennifer Scott
These sessions offered valuable insights into designing research projects, securing funding, and writing competitive proposals, contributing to the enhancement of research capacity among students and faculty alike.
A notable highlight of the event was the launch of the national-level competition “My Thesis in 3 Minutes”, the first of its kind in Jordan. The competition, dedicated to graduate students, aimed to develop participants’ ability to present their research topics in a clear, concise, and compelling manner to non-specialist audiences within a strict three-minute timeframe.
Students presented their research summaries before a panel of judges composed of the visiting honorary professors. Submissions were evaluated based on clarity, presentation quality, and communication effectiveness. The competition received wide acclaim from attendees and judges, who praised its impact in promoting a culture of research, academic confidence, and public speaking skills among students.
The two-day event concluded with a closing ceremony that celebrated the winners of the competition and honored the contributions of the honorary professors. The School of Pharmacy expressed its deep appreciation to the guests for their valuable input and continued support, which played a pivotal role in the success of this academic initiative.
