The University of Jordan (UJ) and the University of California (UC) on Sunday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing cooperation in the fields of agriculture and natural resources.

The MoU was signed by UJ President, Professor Nathir Obeidat, and on behalf of the University of California, and Vice President for Agriculture and Natural Resources Dr. Glenda Humiston, by the University President’s Advisor, Dr. Burnet Han. The signing ceremony was attended by UJ's vice presidents, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and several researchers from the University of California.

Under the terms of the MoU, both universities will collaborate on joint research projects, with a particular focus on sustainable agriculture and the conservation of natural resources. This partnership will also facilitate the exchange of agricultural knowledge and technology, while providing valuable training and practical opportunities for students and researchers from both institutions.

Obeidat emphasized the importance of this collaboration in addressing critical agricultural challenges in Jordan, particularly those related to water scarcity. He highlighted the role of UJ in serving the local community through innovative research and sustainable development initiatives.

For his part, Han expressed UC's commitment to expanding international partnerships, noting that the collaboration with UJ represents a unique opportunity to share expertise and advance agricultural research for the benefit of both California and Jordan.

The MoU also outlines plans for joint seminars, workshops, and academic exchanges, as well as the co-publication of research findings; which will contribute to the development of young professionals and enhance the scientific capabilities of graduate students at both universities.
