The University of Jordan (UJ) launched a new interdisciplinary research group specializing in palliative care for cancer patients. The initiative aims to improve the quality of life for patients and their families by advancing scientific research that addresses physical, psychological, and spiritual suffering. It also focuses on developing effective care strategies based on scientific evidence and best global practices.

The group seeks to evaluate current palliative care models both locally and internationally and to propose innovative solutions that meet the complex needs of cancer patients at all stages of the disease. It also aims to empower healthcare providers by enhancing their ability to deliver comprehensive and compassionate care that respects patient dignity and improves the treatment experience.

The research team includes experts from the Department of Clinical Nursing at the University of Jordan's School of Nursing, such as Prof. Ruqayya Zeilani, prof. Maysoon Abdalrahim, Dr. Randa Albusoul, and Dr. Mohammed Yacoub.

They are joined by prominent national and international specialists in palliative care, including prof. Jane Seymour from the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom, prof. Nour Al-Din Shaqirat from the United Arab Emirates, Dr. Elham Othman from the Applied Science University, Dr. Bushra Kh. Alhusamiah from the Middle East University, and Dr. Fadi Abu-Farsakh from the King Hussein Cancer Center. The group also includes postgraduate students from various Jordanian universities, such as Amal Ababneh from Jerash Private University and Rowan Al-Assaf from Al-Zaytoonah University.

The group’s research focuses on developing effective palliative interventions that alleviate pain and address the physical, psychological, and spiritual challenges faced by patients. It aims to build strategic research and professional partnerships with leading institutions such as the King Hussein Cancer Center, the Jordanian Palliative and Pain Management Society, and Sigma Theta Tau International.

Through collaboration, innovation, and evidence-based practice, the group aspires to turn scientific advancements into educational and clinical resources that support the next generation of healthcare professionals and strengthen the healthcare system's ability to provide dignified and comfort-centered care for cancer patients throughout their treatment journey.
