University of Jordan, University of Waterloo Sign Agreement during Second Honorary Professors' Forum

As part of the activities of the Second Honorary Professors Forum, which officially commenced Saturday, the University of Jordan (UJ) and the University of Waterloo Canada signed a cooperation agreement to establish a joint program aimed at supporting student sponsorships, a step expected to significantly enhance the academic and educational process.

The agreement was signed on behalf of UJ by its President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, and on behalf of the University of Waterloo by its Associate Vice President Prof. Bessma Momani. The signing ceremony was attended by Vice President for Scientific Schools Prof. Ashraf Abu Karaki and Director of the International Affairs Unit Dr. Sameh Zubaidi.

Under the terms of the agreement, scholarships and tuition discounts will be offered to University of Jordan-sponsored students attending the University of Waterloo. These costs will be fully covered by the University of Jordan, with no cap placed on the number of students eligible for the discount. According to the agreement, Jordanian students will be treated as domestic (Canadian) students rather than international ones for tuition purposes.

The signing of this agreement comes as a step toward activating the general Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both parties last year, which outlines potential areas of cooperation in scientific, academic, and research fields. The agreement includes provisions for organizing joint seminars and conferences that benefit both institutions, as well as the exchange of students, faculty members, and researchers for teaching and training purposes.

Following the signing ceremony, Obeidat expressed his great pleasure in formalizing such a collaboration, which serves the interests of the university and its sponsored students, with a globally renowned academic institution like the University of Waterloo.

Obeidat expressed hope that this cooperation would mark the beginning of a series of fruitful and effective partnerships that will support the university’s progress, enhance its standing, and advance its scientific and academic fields.

For her part, Momani emphasized the importance of this partnership with UJ, noting that it aligns with the shared interest in advancing education, describing it as a pioneering step in supporting the academic journey of the University of Jordan and its sponsored students.
