University of Jordan and University of Illinois Partner for Academic Cooperation

Suha Alsubaihi – The University of Jordan (UJ) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Illinois, USA, aimed at strengthening academic cooperation and developing joint research programs.

The MoU was signed by UJ President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, and the President of the University of Illinois, Prof. Timothy Killeen, in presence of Interim Executive Director of Discovery Partners Institute and Senior Advisor to the president of the University of Illinois Deba Dutta, and Prof. Nadera Sweiss, via video conferencing.

The agreement aims to expand cooperation in academic and research fields through the exchange of faculty members and researchers for conducting joint research, delivering lectures and workshops, and facilitating student exchange opportunities between the two institutions.

The MoU includes collaboration between research centers and distinguished institutes at both universities on research projects, training programs, and symposiums. It also seeks to develop joint initiatives that foster cooperation between UJ and local and international industrial sectors through academic partnerships with the University of Illinois.

During the meeting preceding the signing ceremony, both parties emphasized the importance of this partnership in promoting academic excellence and research collaboration. They highlighted that such cooperation provides broad opportunities for knowledge and expertise exchange.

They also noted that building bridges of cooperation between the two universities would strengthen their regional and international standing and support their efforts in establishing strategic partnerships that contribute to sustainable development, innovation, and progress across various academic and applied fields.

The meeting was attended by UJ Vice Presidents; Dean of King Abdullah II School of Information Technology, Prof. Basel Mahafzah; Dean of the School of Medicine, Prof. Ayman Wahbeh; Director of the Information Technology Center, Prof. Loai Alnemer; and Director of the International Affairs Unit, Dr. Sameh Al-Zubaidi.
