The University of Jordan (UJ) believes in the essentiality of a diverse student body, affirmed Prof. Nathir Obeidat, UJ President, during his speech at a ceremony held on Thursday to celebrate outstanding international students.
He emphasized during the event, which is organised by the International Program, Alumni and Marketing Unit, that UJ must base higher education on a comprehensive understanding of educational needs and required skills while also revisiting curricula, infrastructure, and teaching staff to adapt to societal and global changes.
He continued by saying that there is nothing more beautiful than seeing this wonderful gathering of students with the ambassadors of their countries or their representatives, with the values of love and brotherhood deeply rooted among Jordanian students and their fellow Arab and Muslim students, as well as our friends from all over the world.
He emphasized that the university will continue to embody the cross-border academic values it has always upheld. UJ Students, whether they come from the heart of Amman, the outskirts of the Kingdom, or any part of the world outside Jordan, are UJ students, and we are proud of them as they carry the name of the University of Jordan. The same regulations and instructions apply to all students, and we accept nothing less.
Obeidat noted that our primary and ultimate goal is the student—the human student as we seek to graduate students who are critical thinkers, who preserve the dignity and respect of others and are capable of performing their duties to the fullest. “We are proud of our students, our strong ambassadors who represent us everywhere,” he added.
He expressed his great pleasure at seeing representatives of the diplomatic corps sitting alongside students from various countries around the world. He concluded his speech by noting that UJ is advancing in global rankings, having risen this year in all classifications, reaching the 368th place in the QS ranking, confirming that it is one of the most distinguished universities, not only in the region but globally.
In turn, the Director of International Program, Alumni and Marketing Unit, Dr. Zaid Obeidat, said that the university has always celebrated its international students.
He added that the university takes pride in being a centre where global cultures come together, guiding its students toward the greater good of humanity and the world. “The university is dedicated to its vision and mission of leading in scientific, technological, economic, social, and cultural transformation, playing a key role in the development and modernization of Jordan, serving both local and global communities, and inspiring sustainable development on a local and global scale,” he said.
He further confirmed that the International Programs, Alumni, and Marketing Unit will continue to implement the recommendations of UJ president in serving international students around the clock, overcoming any difficulties they may face, and sharing the experience of their university life.
The event concluded with the President honouring 100 outstanding international students from 40 nationalities around the world. In addition, the UJ choir, under Prof. Nidal Nseirat's supervision, performed various musical pieces.
