Two Entrepreneurial Projects from UJ Win at Ahli Funtech Hackathon's First Stage

​Ahli Fintech Company, the technological subsidiary of Jordan Ahli Bank, in partnership with Crown Prince Foundation, launched the "Ahli Fintech Hackathon" in its second edition, with the participation of students from 10 Jordanian universities.

Teams including student from the University of Jordan (UJ) have won among the top ten teams in the first stage of the competition; one of which is the Payond team which aims at employing financial technology to find solutions to financial problems at the university level.

Payond team comprised of UJ students Omar Shaaban (computer science), and Shahd Jamhour (marketing), as well as Marah Al-Masry from Al-Balqa Applied University, and Suhaila Al-Alimi also from Al-Balqa Applied University.

Another group of students have qualified for next stage for their FinBud project, which is an application designed specifically for university students that allows users to create Money Pools and save money by using artificial intelligence technology to create customized budget plans to help them achieve their goals, pay their university fees, and purchase their needs.

FinBud project team comprised of UJ students Hussam Fawarsa (Industrial Engineering) and Osama Al Fuqaha (Computer Engineering), as well as Zain Arabiyat from the German Jordanian University and Samira Tarkhan from the American University of Madaba.

The winning teams will receive a 6-month incubation period with Al Ahli Bank, after which the teams will compete for the first prize of $200,000 to finance the establishment of their startups, in addition to free participation in the Ahli Fintech accelerator. All teams will also have the opportunity to attract further funding from potential investors.

In this occasion, Director of UJ's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, Dr. Yazan Al-Zein, received a recognition shield for the center's role in promoting the competition and supporting students with their projects.
