University of Jordan Launches Second Phase of Research Groups Initiative

As part of its commitment to developing research system and maximizing its impact in serving society and various sectors, the University of Jordan (UJ) has launched the second phase of the Research Groups Initiative.

This phase will build upon the first phase, which involved the establishment and official recognition of multiple research groups across various academic disciplines. This initiative aligns with the university’s strategic direction to strengthen collective research work and enhance the production of high-quality knowledge.

The second phase aims to ensure the effectiveness of the established groups and their ability to achieve tangible results at both the academic and societal levels. The Research Groups Accreditation Committee will hold direct meetings with each recognized group to monitor their performance and ensure they adhere to a set of essential requirements.

Each group will also be required to prepare research proposals to apply for funding from local or international funding agencies, based on their approved research plan. Ongoing and completed research will be monitored, with emphasis on clarifying the role of each member in the execution, writing, and publication stages, as well as building relationships with relevant entities.

During regular meetings, the importance of active participation from all members will be emphasized, including attending and contributing to the preparation of studies, writing research papers, publishing them, and engaging in various group activities.

Each research group is required to regularly update its website by publishing news, research outputs, projects, and partnerships, ensuring that it is a transparent and dynamic platform reflecting its scientific activity.

In this context, UJ President Prof. Nathir Obeidat, confirmed that "the second phase of the initiative represents a qualitative step towards transforming research groups from an organizational framework into an effective and influential scientific production environment."

"As we envision it, the research group is a platform for integration and collaboration across disciplines, a field for directing knowledge towards serving society and innovating solutions." Obeidat added, "We rely on these groups as a main driver to achieve the university's research aspirations, and we will continue to support and monitor them to ensure their progress and sustainability."

In this regard, UJ calls on all faculty members to positively engage with the Research Groups Initiative, actively participate in its activities, and contribute their expertise to its development and sustainability.

The university also encourages various national and international sectors and institutions to strengthen partnerships and collaboration with these groups, contributing to directing scientific research toward addressing real challenges and achieving a tangible impact in serving sustainable development.
