The University of Jordan (UJ) President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, partook today in the General Assembly Conference of the Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Islamabad, Pakistan.
Accompanied by the Vice President for Scientific Schools, Prof. Ashraf Abu Karkeh, and Vice President for Humanities Schools Prof. Nahed Emiash, Obeidat presented an overview of the university and its transformative strides in global academic rankings.
He highlighted efforts to enhance the quality of education and update academic curricula to align with rapid technological advancements. Obeidat also discussed initiatives aimed at improving students’ skills, aligning academic programs with labour market needs, and implementing career preparation programs. These efforts, he noted, have pushed the university toward a brighter future.
For his part, the CEO of COMSTECH, commended UJ’s leading initiatives in welcoming scholars and attracting visiting and honorary professors. He highlighted the university's commitment to leveraging external expertise in research, teaching, creativity, and innovation, contributing to the transformation of ideas into innovations and producing knowledge that enhances economic growth.
It is worth noting that COMSTECH was established in 1981 during the third conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Chaired by the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the committee’s primary mission is to strengthen collaboration among OIC member states in science and technology, enhance capacities through training in modern fields, and implement follow-up actions and programs to elevate the scientific and technological capabilities of Islamic countries.
