UJ Workshop Discusses Concepts of Research Ethics

​The Deanship of Scientific Research at the University of Jordan (UJ) organized a workshop titled: "Basic Concepts in Research Ethics," in presence of Vice President for Quality and Local Accreditation Affairs, Prof. Amira Masri, and Dean of Scientific Research, Prof. Yasser Rayyan.

The workshop was conducted by Prof. Omar Khabour, Professor of Medical and Laboratory Sciences at Jordan University of Science and Technology, and Prof. Karem Al-Zoubi, Professor of Pharmacology and Therapy, and Dean of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Sharjah.

The workshop aimed to enhance academic capacities and raise awareness in the field of research ethics, covering several key topics, including the role of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) in protecting the rights of research participants, ways to avoid unethical research behavior, and an explanation of the informed consent process and its importance in ensuring transparency and respect in conducting research. Additionally, it addressed the ethics of scientific authorship and how to avoid manipulation of authorship credits.

During the workshop, which targeted faculty members and researchers in social sciences, Khabour discussed topics related to the review of research by the IRB, the types of research activities requiring review, and challenges faced by the board.

For his part, Al-Zoubi, speaking virtually, elaborated on the informed consent process and its role in promoting research ethics. He also highlighted the ethics of scientific authorship and the importance of integrity in this field.
