The University of Jordan ranked (401-600) globally in the THE Impact Ranking 2023 of the Times Higher Education, a ranking system based on the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In detail, UJ achieved the global rank of (101-200) and topped the Jordanian universities in the zero hunger. It also ranked (89) globally in the goal of quality education.
Moreover, the university improved its position from previous year to achieve the rank of (301-400) worldwide in the goal of good health and well-being. Regarding the goal of decent work and economic growth, the university achieved the rank of (301-400). In the goal of reducing inequalities, it secured the rank of (201-300), and in the goal of peace, justice, and strong institutions, it achieved the rank of (301-400).
UJ President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, stated that the university is steadily advancing in the various criteria of global rankings, emphasising the university's significant focus on meeting the requirements of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
Obeidat stressed the importance of working towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, noting that the university has included the goals in its strategic plan for 2022-2027 due to their importance and their role in academic, administrative, and overall development of the university.
THE Impact Ranking is the only ranking that evaluates the impact of universities in community development and building. It assesses universities' contribution to shaping policies related to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their implementation through 17 goals.
This recognition underscores the importance of enhancing the role of higher education institutions in achieving global sustainability, as well as the necessity of collaborative efforts and constructive cooperation to improve the quality of life sustainably for future generations through scientific research, efficient resource management, awareness, and education.
