The University of Jordan (UJ), through its Deanship of Student Affairs, organized a dialogue session titled “Enhancing University Students’ Participation in Political Life.” The session was held under the patronage of Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Munem Al-Oudat, in cooperation with the Arab World Center for Democratic Development and Human Rights (UNIHRD) and the Hanns Seidel Foundation Jordan Office. The event was part of the National Program for Activating Youth Participation in Political and Public Life, in line with the Royal directives to empower youth and involve them in Jordan’s reform and modernization process.
Al-Oudat emphasized that the Political Modernization Project, with its three main tracks, represents a comprehensive national vision aimed at broadening public participation and enabling young people to play an active role in decision-making. He stressed that democracy is built through conscious practice and responsible engagement, not through slogans, and praised UJ as a national platform for thought, dialogue, and leadership development among youth.
UJ president Prof. Nathir Obeidat affirmed that hosting this dialogue session reflects the university’s national role in fostering a culture of responsible dialogue and empowering students to engage meaningfully in public life. He underscored that UJ will remain a dynamic platform for constructive youth dialogue, promoting awareness and strengthening national belonging.
Resident Representative of the Hanns Seidel Foundation Jordan Office Christoph Goebertus commended the fruitful partnership with Jordan and UJ in supporting civic awareness and active citizenship programs for youth. Meanwhile, Director of the Arab World Center for Democratic Development and Human Rights affirmed that this dialogue reflects the Center’s vision to empower university youth and involve them in driving positive change through innovative initiatives implemented across the Kingdom’s governorates.
The event concluded with an open dialogue between the minister and students, who expressed their awareness and enthusiasm to actively contribute to shaping Jordan’s future.
