University of Jordan Launches International Research Group on Digitization and Human Security

As part of its commitment to advancing scientific research on contemporary global challenges, the University of Jordan (UJ) has announced the launch of an international research group, titled: "Digitization and Human Security: Benefits and Threats." The initiative reflects UJ’s ongoing efforts to explore the impact of accelerating technological developments on human well-being and societal stability.

The research group is founded on a multidisciplinary academic vision that addresses both the opportunities and risks associated with digitization and artificial intelligence. While digital technologies continue to transform the way societies function, enhancing productivity, connectivity, and access to services, they also raise complex concerns related to ethics, privacy, social cohesion, and cultural integrity.

The group seeks to investigate the implications of digital transformation on human security, with a particular focus on issues such as data protection, algorithmic fairness, disinformation, and the ethical boundaries of AI applications. The initiative aims to contribute to the development of informed, responsible frameworks for cybersecurity and digital governance that safeguard human dignity and societal resilience.

In addition to the technological dimension, the group will examine the philosophical, linguistic, psychological, and religious aspects of digitization and its broader effects on human identity and dignity.

The research group comprises a distinguished cohort of scholars from the University of Jordan, including Prof. Majeda Omar, Prof. Nadim Obeid, Prof. Mohammad Ahmad Qudah, Dr. Ahmad L. Ahmad, Dr. Tahani Salah Al-Khatib, and Mohammad Al-Jaafreh, a doctoral candidate in philosophy. The team is joined by academic experts from local, regional, and international institutions, including Prof. Muslih Najjar (Hashemite University), Prof. Ridwan Al-Sayyid (Mohammed Bin Zayed University for Humanities, UAE), Prof. Amineh Hoti (University of Cambridge, UK), Prof. Terence J. Kleven (Central College, Iowa, USA), and Dr. Suleiman Al-Zidanein (Ministry of Education, Jordan).

Through the production of high-impact studies and policy-relevant recommendations, the group aspires to become a pioneering platform for research on the intersection of digital advancement and inclusive human security.
